Battle of the Sexes

Rights of equality in the United States date back to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Gender discrimination has continued and more than 90 years after women gained the right to vote, the gap has not been eliminated.

CNN reports women make 75 percent of what men do in the same careers. The optimistic Obama administration suggests this be another push to help women up the corporate ladder. Although women have "come a long way baby", we're not quite there.

According to Ragan's PR Daily, this may be seen as a barrier to getting a great job, and deter applicants from applying. The competition for jobs is complex; as more people (women) enter the workforce, salaries are decreasing. The average salaries for professions will then decrease as well.

The need to reduce the inequalities for women goes beyond bridging the salary gap. Women provide diversity in the workplace that helps satisfy the theory of requisite variety. This essentially means an organization should be diverse inside its organization as well as outside, in order to build effective relationships within their environment.
